In the fall of 2006, The Fort Edmonton Foundation awarded a tender contract to Lorac Construction Ltd. to build the Exhibits Building in Fort Edmonton Park. The Exhibits Building is a replica of the Exhibition Building that stood in Borden Park in Edmonton in the 1920's. It was an absolute pleasure working with Leo and his crew. Throughout the building process, Leo was accessible, met with the team frequently, and promptly circulated meeting minutes and change orders. It appeared that Leo was right on top of every detail of the project at all times. The Lorac crew was communicative and accommodating of the restrictions that come with building in a public place. Rarely have I seen the Client/Consultant/Contractor team work as effectively as it did on the Exhibits Building project. The completed Exhibits Building is beautiful and unique. One of our recent projects with Lorac is the ‘Muttart Conservatory Front Entrance Expansion and Renovation.’ I have been very pleased with the work Lorac has done. There have been some scope changes, and several change orders issued as a result, but Lorac has been able to keep the project moving forward at an acceptable level, for the client, Community Services. The quality of work has been very good. Deficiencies have been properly corrected, where required. Communication with Lorac and the City of Edmonton has always been excellent, through biweekly site meetings and other general correspondence. The cost of change orders have been reasonable and in general compliance with industry standards. Lorac can delegate and manage the work effectively with their subcontractors and suppliers. The City of Edmonton has a very good working relationship with Lorac, on this project as well as several others over the past years. I would recommend Lorac to other Clients and Owners, where strong Prime Contractor skills are desired.
